Dodges Ferry White 1 (Patrick) lost to ESS Black 3
In a match of high intensity and genuine quality the team eventually went down 1-3 after two late ESS goals broke open a very evenly contested match.
After scoring 40 goals in their last four games the kids took a while to find their rhythm against an equally skilled and well structured opponent and their goal was under seige for almost the entire first half. To the team’s credit they only conceded the one goal up until half-time with goalkeeper Blaise outstanding, stopping numerous shots with a series of diving saves and brave challenges.
After composing themselves with a drink and a banana at the break the children fought very hard to level the match in the second stanza with Sam making several trademark runs from the back and Imogen launching many a long ball to give the attacking players an opportunity up front.
Patrick fashioned a few chances for himself but the ESS goalie made some fine saves and with a little luck the score could have easily been reversed. Alas, it was not to be but the children learned plenty from such an intense contest and I’m sure they’ll continue their excellent form when they meet the Reds in next weekend’s local derby.
